Yahoo Admits All 3 Billion Accounts Were Hacked In 2013 Cyber Attack
Finally Yahoo! admitted that Approx 3 Billion accounts were affected due to Yahoo Data breach in 2013. Cyber Forensic experts reported and discovered new information relating to the data breach after it was folded into the AOL brand. All user accounts had been affected including Clear text passwords, Payment card data or bank account information.
CyberSecurity expert said, the data was protected with outdated security, that's why it was easy to crack encryption, security questions and backup email Address and these information could be used to hijack into any Yahoo account.
Yahoo bought by Verizon communication Inc for 3.38 Billion pound in July. Verizon cut the price by $350M after 2013 and 2014 data breaches were revealed.
"The company recently obtained new intelligence and now believes, following an investigation with the assistance of outside forensic experts, that all Yahoo user accounts were affected by the August 2013 theft," Verizon said in a statement.
How to Protect?
- Change your password and security questions and answers for any other accounts on which you used the same or similar information used for your Yahoo account.
- Review your accounts for suspicious activity.
- Be cautious of any unsolicited communications that ask for your personal information or refer you to a web page asking for personal information.
- Avoid clicking on links or downloading attachments from suspicious emails
