Locky Ransomware: A New Danger Comes Up In The Cyber Era

Locky Ransomware: A New Danger Comes Up In The Cyber Era

“Your Data could be inaccessible to you unless you pay”. Yes, you heard it right.
A new kind of malware has arrived and that is known as Ransomware.

Ransomware locks the files on your hard drive by encrypting them and ask for money to decrypt them. Otherwise, you won’t be able to access your data again. So you end up with paying hundreds or thousands of dollars. It’s a dangerous threat to individuals and corporates as well. Small Enterprises are facing many disruptions from this threat.

How It Is Laying Off Your PC ?

Locky ransomware could be delivered to your PC in the same way ‘Dridex’ used to infect your desktop i.e. via email. So Locky is generally attached to a Word document to an email. But that can be run only if you have enabled the macros in your PC. So if the macros are enabled in your PC then you are in trouble, it will take over your PC in no time.

Generally, the mail comes in with the subject "ATTN: Invoice_J-<8x>" where 8x is the eight digit number. It makes the victim think that this is a kind of invoice which will not affect him at any cost but shall see it at least once. So this is how users are getting trapped.

How To Protect Yourself From Getting Infected

As this is a critical threat to the industry, few security giants have come up with their anti-ransomware tools so that you can secure yourself from getting attacked.

Be careful about every attachment you open in an email no matter what the file name or subject line is. If you found anything suspicious such as file name or content, do not open it. It is always good to be secure than sorry.
